Itanium market set to boom, report - two thirds will move
20 Febuary 2006
A SURVEY by IDC claims that Intel's "big tin" microprocessor is set to enter the big time at last.
The research company surveyed 500 people on an enterprise server panel which, according to Enterprise Networks & Servers, shows high customer satisfaction for the chip.
Two thirds of firms using PA RISC servers intend to migrate to Itanium based machines, but this may not be that encouraging for Hewlett Packard, since that firm has announced its intention to wave goodbye to that chip in favour of the Intel offering.
IDC reckons the Itanium based market will be worth $6.6 billion in 2009.
